Friends' Youth Arts Academy a Great Success
The Arts Centre CEO Destry Puia and Development Manager Kathy Knott joined the February Board meeting to brief the Board on the progress of the Friends' Youth Arts Academy, which had been sponsored by the Friends with a $20,000 donation.
In reviewing the programme, Destry noted that the bulk of the money paid for professional artists fees. It was expected that during the year 150 participants will be involved in programme activities and to date the feed back from recent participants had been excellent. There had been the greatest interest in dancing, relative to other activities with a growing proportion of male participants. There had also been a strong positive reaction from parents.
Destry presented the Board with a large mural prepared by students of the Dance and Musical Theatre classes to thank the Friends for their sponsorship. We have not yet worked out where to hang it, but will find somewhere.
